I am an extremely fortunate person… I have had three separate and distinct careers that I have been completely passionate about. My professional career began when I graduated law school and started my own law firm, with a focus on corporate and commercial law, along with real estate and estate planning. My firm soon grew to 8 lawyers, with three of us being the partners. After practicing law for 11 years, during which time a client and I had developed a business in the hospitality sector – I had come to a crossroads where I had to make an agonizing decision. The business – now 100% mine as my business partner had sold his interests to me – had become very successful, having grown into three separate operations. Although I absolutely loved practicing law, I also loved running businesses. What to do? Since I loved both options, my decision came down to pragmatics… which option provided me with the greatest opportunity to grow. Though not without risk, I opted to resign the active practice of law and focus 100% on my business interests. In 2001 I sold my business interests and embarked upon my third career – as a financial advisor / wealth manager. Similar to practicing law, what I love most about the financial advisory field is that I get to help people improve their lives every single day. What greater reward could one ask for? My primary focus is in the areas of wealth-management, retirement planning, succession planning & estate-planning, together with risk management strategies (including advanced life insurance solutions) for professionals, business owners and high net worth individuals – and their families, in NB, NS, ON and AB. My background in practicing law, and in conceiving, building and operating businesses has proven immensely helpful to me in my dealings with my many business and professional clients. When a business owner or a professional tells me his/her story, I can identify with the struggles, challenges and opportunities he or she deals with every day. My passion is meeting people, getting to know them, learning what is important to them, understanding their goals, their aspirations and their fears (what keeps them up at night) – and then helping them to sort out the pieces of their financial jigsaw puzzle and bringing calm and meaning to their seemingly complicated and confusing financial life. This is my mission – to help my clients and their families to secure their financial wellbeing. In this ever-changing landscape of unprecedented market movements, investment options, tax changes, new insurance products and a myriad of legal and planning issues, it is almost impossible for the untrained person to organize their financial affairs in a manner that best serves their own and their family’s interests. As a result of this ever-changing landscape, it is crucial that financial advisors adhere to robust continuing education and best practices, and ensure that their clients are up-to-date with their planning. This is something we are fully engaged in at AttisCorp, and we are always taking advanced education courses to improve our service offering to our clientele. In my spare time I enjoy backgammon, reading and travelling with my life partner, Wendy. Education:
What does all of this mean to you? It means that I take my profession – and your financial wellbeing – very seriously. I have a record of commitment, integrity, loyalty, accountability, hard work, professionalism and openness. Perhaps most importantly, I put my clients’ best interests first. I am responsive to my clients, their needs and their aspirations. I am not content to rest on my laurels. I strive to improve my skills daily so that I can continue to improve my clients’ lives daily. By helping my clients clarify their life goals, I am able to identify with their unique lifestyle and retirement needs. I then help each client to select the right financial products and services for themselves, their family and their business. And it doesn't stop there – it’s a lifelong process, beginning with savings and protection, and then evolving into wealth management, retirement planning, financial planning, tax planning, business succession planning, estate planning and wealth succession. This is how I help my clients create the lifestyle they want today and throughout retirement – eventually passing their estate on to their heirs. The offer I make to you is to come and meet with me. Of course there is no charge. I will give you an honest and candid opinion on your investment portfolio and current financial plan, or help you to develop one if you aren’t quite there yet. Once you have had the opportunity to meet with me and make any enquiries you wish, if you think I can be helpful to you and your family, we can then begin to build a relationship. My mission is to be your most trusted advisor, and to help you find and maintain a comfortable balance between your life and your money. I hope we have an opportunity to meet and get to know one another! Click here to see Joel’s Community & Industry Involvement. Connect with me on
